Short Story Lady storytelling and crafts at Coppice Library book day 6 May 2017
Coppice Library Book Day
I was invited by Coppice Library to be the guest storyteller for their Book Day. I chose a pirate theme, and devised an exciting programme of storytelling (for Under-5s, and later for older children), pirate crafts, and a treasure hunt. We made pirate bandanas, swords, and treasure maps. We built our own pirate ships from cardboard boxes, and some children chose to listen to stories from inside their cardboard ships! I led a group of children through a treasure hunt round the library, we searched for pieces of a treasure map to lead us to chocolate treasure.

Fairytale Fun Day
Funding from Make Sale Smile enabled me to put on a Fairytale Fun Day at Sale Library. The Library lobby was transformed into a fairytale wonderland for the day. Children aged 1-12 years old enjoyed activities from decorating a gingerbread house to plaiting Rapunzel’s hair, and all children were given a free book to take home with them. Children joined in with my telling of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, and made up their own fairytales.
Roald Dahl event
I held a pair of splendiferous celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth. Coppice and Sale Libraries hosted crocodiles, Twits and tortoises for two evenings of fantastic fun. Almost 200 children came along for a free Roald Dahl book and a chance at a Golden Ticket. They filled in their event passport by taking part in various activities such as throwing snozzcumbers into a giant’s mouth, or food at Mr Twit’s beard. They made their own dream jars and found Enormous Crocodiles hidden around the library. I carried a giant saucepan round the library, filling it with crazy ingredients for a Marvellous Medicine storytime with a twist!
Photos from the events are on my Facebook event pages:
Storytime for the Under-5s
Coppice Library booked me for several sessions of storytelling and crafts for families of children in Sale. I have now done three Christmas story times, and one in the summer holidays as part of the Big Friendly Read. Events were well-attended by children and their parents/carers, who joined in whole-heartedly with puppets, crafts and book storytelling.
Harry Potter Book Night
Building on the success of the Narnia Party, Coppice Library invited me back to run a Harry Potter Book Night at the library in February 2016. The event drew people from all over Sale, over 100 families filled the library to bursting, all having fun with crafts, spells, food and drink based on J. K Rowling’s hugely popular “Harry Potter” book series.
Narnia Party
I devised, planned and executed a hugely successful Narnia Party at Coppice Library. More details on this on the Narnia Party page.
Coppice Library Family Fun Day
Here are some pictures of me as the official storyteller for Coppice Library’s Community Fun day. Over 400 people attended this community event, including the Mayor, and a great time was had by all!
